Golf & Shooting Day 2023

David Parsons (Secure Trust Bank) and Chris Marsden (BDO LLP) won the top prizes at the Hilton-Baird Group’s 11th annual Golf and Shooting Day at the stunning Remedy Oak Golf Club in Dorset.

Despite torrential rain and storms overnight, the course conditions were ideal and led to some high scoring rounds, with eight golfers scoring more than 36 points and four of the 11 groups breaking the 90-point mark in the team competition.

Thanks to some impressive play and consistent scoring, David Parsons won the individual trophy with 41 points, finishing narrowly ahead of Hugh Liddane (Investec Bank) on 39 points, and Andrew Bowden-Brown (Shoosmiths) with 38 points.

Bowden-Brown claimed third place on countback ahead of team-mate, Matthew Shepherd (Skipton Business Finance). Together with the efforts of Phil Nicholls (Teneo) and Neil Jones (White Oak Europe), their high scoring contributed to 95 points in the team competition, which was enough to claim the prize.

Elsewhere, Nick Clarke (Mazars) won the longest drive award for his booming effort down the par 5 10th, with Tim Bateson (Interpath Advisory) finishing nearest the pin on the 150-yard 13th after a sumptuous tee shot.

In the shooting event, our guests availed themselves of Charlie Holland’s splendid instruction breaking clays against the backdrop of the undulating Dorset hills.

Amid some tough competition, both the overall prize and the ladies’ prize were retained by last year’s sharp-shooting winners.

With the group setting a very high standard, with their combined scores above average, Chris Marsden’s 35 clays were enough to seal the overall title as he finished narrowly ahead of Kelly Mitchell (Quantuma Advisory), whose 31 clays saw her win the ladies’ competition.
